Editor's Note

March is doing exactly what March does. Seven straight days of rain, because this city doesn't half-ass a gray streak. The good news: this weekend has enough going on indoors that you won't notice. Emerald City Comic Con this weekend at the Convention Center, the Kraken have Ottawa at home Saturday, and Kill Tony rolls into McCaw Hall late Saturday night for a comedy show that will absolutely keep you out past your DST bedtime.

Speaking of which… don't forget to set your clocks forward Saturday night. You're losing an hour of sleep but gaining 7 PM sunsets, which is the deal Seattle has been waiting on since November. Take it.

The weekend belongs to you. Go spend it.

Don’t Miss

Emerald City Comic Con
Final weekend of ECCC and the Convention Center is basically a different city right now. Hayden Christensen, Kyle MacLachlan, Ian Somerhalder -- the panels are stacked, the cosplay is unhinged, and the lines are long. Saturday badge holders get access to Taking Back ECCC, the 107.7 The End after-party featuring local artist Hannah Duckworth. Worth at least a lap through downtown just to witness what tens of thousands of people in capes do to Pike Street foot traffic.

Kraken vs. Ottawa Senators
Ottawa is not exactly a playoff threat this year, which makes Saturday's home game a solid, low-stakes reason to show up, yell, and drink a $17 beer in a building that still genuinely rules. The Kraken are quietly having a decent season. Give them a Saturday night.

Killers of Kill Tony
The Kill Tony crew brings its chaotic-good comedy experiment to McCaw Hall late Saturday. Part open mic, part roast, entirely unpredictable, and not for the easily offended. Fair warning: you will be up way too late and Sunday is already stealing an hour from you.

Worth Leaving Home For

Penn Cove Musselfest - Coupeville, Whidbey Island | Sat - Sun, 10:30am - 7pm
Yes, it requires a ferry. Yes, it's worth it. Penn Cove Musselfest is one of those events that sounds extremely Pacific Northwest and then completely delivers -- fishing off a pier, fresh local shellfish, cold air that doesn't smell like a bus tunnel. Free admission, food and boat tours extra. Rain on Whidbey just hits different than rain in Seattle. Bring a jacket.

Seattle International Dance Festival Winter Mini-Fest - Erickson Theatre, 1524 Harvard Ave | Sat - Sun
The SIDF wraps its winter run with works by Khambatta Dance Company of Seattle alongside Colectivo Glovo from Spain and Portugal. Capitol Hill, intimate theater, international contemporary dance -- $15. The kind of thing you'll feel cultured about for at least a week.

Eating & Drinking

Kells Irish Restaurant & Pub
Kells' 43rd annual St. Patrick's Day Festival kicked off last night and runs through the 17th inside the historic Butterworth Building near Pike Place. Daily live Celtic music, rugby watch parties, and perfectly poured pints. Get in this weekend before St. Patrick's Day proper turns the whole thing into a contact sport.

Snohomish Wine Festival
Twenty wineries, beer, cider, spirits, and kombucha at a farm in Snohomish. Your $45 gets you a glass, 8 tastes, and a $5 food voucher. No kids, no pets -- just adults doing adult things in a field while it rains on them. A reasonable excuse to drive north.

Free & Cheap Stuff

Seattle Sister Cities Soup Sampling | National Nordic Museum, Ballard | Sunday
Ten bucks gets you five tastes of soup from around the world at the Nordic Museum in Ballard. It is cozy, it is low-key, and after losing an hour to DST, a warm bowl of something in Ballard on a rainy Sunday is objectively the correct activity.

Northwest Record Show | Seattle Center Armory | Sunday, 10am - 5pm
Fifty tables of vinyl, CDs, and music collectibles. Free to browse, dangerous if you own a turntable. Early bird admission at 8am for the truly committed. No judgment.

The Kit

Marmot Rain Jacket
Seven days of rain and you're still out here without a proper shell? The Marmot is the jacket that ends the debate, waterproofing, folds small, built to outlast your interest in checking the forecast. Seattle people either already own one or are about to. It'll still be in your closet in 2040.

Hatch Restore Sunrise Alarm Clock
Sunday morning, Daylight Saving Time steals an hour and your body has no idea what happened. The Hatch Restore wakes you with a gradual sunrise simulation instead of a jarring alarm, which won't fix the lost hour but will make you considerably less feral about it. A legitimately good product that pays for itself in spousal goodwill alone.

That's the weekend. Seven days of rain and Seattle's still going to show up -- because we always do.

If this brought you a smile, or helped you figure out how to spend some time… do us a favor and share this with a friend. Word of mouth advertising is all we got!

We'll be back Monday with whatever Seattle did while you were busy living.
